Electrical Fault Finding in Gladstone
A safety switch that trips at 2am. Lights that flicker when the kettle is on. A circuit that is dead for no reason. Fault finding is half the job Kelly does, and reviews on Google keep saying the same thing: he found it, fixed it and explained it.

Small job: from $300. Fault finding is charged as a call-out plus time. Kelly tells you when it is turning into a bigger repair before he keeps going.
Power out? Check this first.
Answer a couple of questions. It tells you whether it is safe to try a reset, whether it is likely an Ergon fault, or whether you should ring Kelly now.
1Can you smell burning, hear buzzing or see scorching anywhere?
2Are the neighbours' lights and street lights off too?
3Look at the switchboard. Has a safety switch or breaker flipped down?
4Unplug everything on that circuit, then push the switch back up once. Did it stay up?
Do not touch the switchboard. Call now.
A burning smell or scorching means heat where there should not be any. Keep people away, and if you can safely reach the main switch, turn it off. If there is smoke or flame, call 000 first.
Call Kelly 0421 644 207Likely a network outage.
If the whole street is dark it is usually an Ergon Energy fault, not your wiring. Check Ergon's outage map or call their faults line. If Ergon says your street is fine, ring Kelly: it may be your service fuse, which he can find and log with Ergon for you.
Call Kelly 0421 644 207Could be the main fuse or the supply.
Nothing tripped but you have no power, so the problem is likely before the board: the service fuse or the supply. That needs a licensed electrician. Reviews describe Kelly arriving within the hour on weekends for exactly this.
Call Kelly 0421 644 207Sorted, for now.
Plug appliances back in one at a time. If the switch trips when a particular one goes in, that appliance is faulty. If it trips again later with nothing new plugged in, the circuit has a fault. Book Kelly to find it.
Book fault findingLeave it off and call.
A safety switch that trips with nothing plugged in is telling you current is leaking somewhere on that circuit. Do not keep resetting it. Kelly traces it and fixes the cause, not just the switch.

“My electrical sub board burnt out and called Kell at Electrikell QLD, he was on time, whilst installing the new electrical sub board he also rectified some sub-standard electrical wiring done previously by another electrician. Good quote/price, good work and left the area clean. If needed will use Electrikell QLD in the future.”

“Amazing customer service. Complete power outage on a Sunday. Arrived within 15 minutes of my call. Identified the cause and arranged Ergon to replace the fuse as it was an Ergon fault. He clearly explained everything so I understood and reassured if I had any issues to call again and he would come back. Ergon arrived within 15 minutes of him leaving and the power is back on. I highly recommend Electrikell QLD.”

How do you find an electrical fault?
Start at the board, test each circuit, split the circuit in halves until the fault is isolated. Insulation resistance tests find damaged cables. It is method, not guesswork.
Why does my safety switch trip when it rains?
Water getting into an outdoor power point, light fitting or junction box. Kelly finds the wet one and seals or replaces it.
Can you fix it on the first visit?
Usually. Kelly carries common breakers, RCDs, points and cable. If a part has to be ordered he makes the installation safe and comes back.
Is it dangerous to keep resetting the switch?
Yes. A safety switch that keeps tripping is telling you current is leaking somewhere. Leave it off and call.
What does fault finding cost?
A call-out plus time on site. Small jobs start from around $300. Kelly gives you a heads up before it grows.
