What does Queensland law require?
Photoelectric alarms, interconnected so they all sound together, in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every level. Rentals and sales must comply now. Every other home must comply by 1 January 2027.
Hardwired or wireless interconnected?
Hardwired 240V alarms with battery backup are required where the existing alarm was hardwired. Where there is no wiring, 10 year lithium wireless-interconnected alarms are allowed and avoid opening ceilings.
Can I install smoke alarms myself?
Battery wireless units can be owner-installed, but hardwired alarms must be done by a licensed electrician. Either way, a licensed install with a certificate is what property managers and buyers ask for.
What about hearing impaired household members?
