Is a safety switch the same as a circuit breaker?
No. A circuit breaker protects the wiring from overload. A safety switch protects people by detecting current leaking to earth and cutting power within about 30 milliseconds. A modern board has both, often combined in one device (an RCBO).
How many safety switches do I need?
Best practice is one per circuit, so a fault on the oven does not kill the lights and the fridge as well. The minimum in Queensland for rentals and sales is coverage of power circuits.
Why does my safety switch keep tripping?
Usually a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor power point, or a damaged cable. Unplug appliances one at a time to narrow it down. If it still trips with nothing plugged in, call. Kelly finds the circuit fault rather than just fitting a new switch.
How often should safety switches be tested?
